About the Book: The town of Jefferson is located in Lincoln County on the northern and western sides of Damariscotta Lake. The town was settled around 1770. Many of the early settlers were from Boothbay and Woolwich. The town originally was known as Ballstown which included both the towns of Jefferson and Whitefield. Jefferson was incorporated as the 165th town in Maine on February 24, 1807. Portions of the town were later set off to the towns of Alna and Newcastle. According to the 1810 census the population of Jefferson was 1,205.
Our Vital Records series includes data from early town records as transcribed from images of original documents. Births, Deaths, and Marriages are just some of the records that have been transcribed as part of this collection. Also included in some books are early church records, warnings out, cattle marks, town meeting information and disputes between neighbors. There is a wealth of information in town vital records and we're extremely proud to be able to share this information with the masses.
